Short Week!!

Hello 1C Families,

Welcome to the short week! Days will be going fast as we approach the middle of the second quarter. It's hard to believe that we are almost at the halfway mark.

We are still hard at work. We started our geometry unit in math today. After grading the math tests from the last unit the students did fairly well. The class average was 78%. I know that there were some difficult concepts to grasp, such as making tens and using them to add and subtract. Singapore builds each year. The students were introduced to this concept and will build on it as they move up through the grades. We will touch on it again, later this year.

We continue to study Mexico and will build as we concentrate on the Maya, Inca and Aztec civilizations. The students had a wonderful time drawing their life-size sharks. They were put into random groups and did a very good job working cooperatively. We will hopefully be finishing these up this week.

We continue to read fairy tales and the students never seem to tire of them. They enjoy comparing and contrasting the stories we have read using the element of a fairy tale.

We will still have a spelling test but our list will be shortened due to the Friday holiday.

We are planning a special celebration for the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break. Please be on the look out for an email form Mrs. Aberouette regarding details and sign-ups.

Performance Reports will be going out next week. If your child does receive one, please do not be alarmed. This is a just a call to regroup and discuss how we can make positive steps forward so that your student can finish out the quarter strong.

Please check your child's green folder for an important notice from our nurse. It is printed on green paper. It is extremely crucial that you read and follow. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation.

Below are this week's phonograms and a few reminders.

Enjoy your long weekend!!
